Back to the Future - Irina Werning

Ms.Wenning has taken a classic idea and applied it with near perfect technique. The result is a rare combination of poignant and funny.

Amine

Nick by Kinsey

I was shooting my friend Nick on the beach the other day, and another friend named Kinsey comes by. She asked if she could try out the camera, so I say "Of course!" and show her how to focus, expose correctly, etc. Within one minute she makes this picture, which was the best of the day.

Kinsey is awesome. I might just give up the photo thing and be her full-time assistant instead.

Portland, Oregon

The rain is beating down.
It's pitch dark.
You've got 100 miles to drive, in a car that's twice your age.
And your windscreen wipers break.

Good job you're tough.

TS

My first attempt at a good b&w studio portrait, done with an off camera flash and a bedside lamp. Clearly we have a long way to go, but at least I'm keen.

Wise Words

The Guardian Newspaper recently interviewed grizzly Vogue photographer David Bailey. They asked him " Who's really good and who's mediocre? "

Mr.Bailey answered "
Oh I don't know. But most photographers just take pictures. They just come and go "click" – anyone can do that. Which is great – the more people that do that the better it is for me. If I take a picture, I know the person. I use plate cameras most of the time, so they're not looking at cameras, they're looking at me. I don't say "laugh". If I want them to laugh, I make them laugh. If I want them to be grumpy, I'll probably be rude to them."

Good point, Mr.Bailey.

Photographer: Anders Linden

All this time I have been increasing the contrast in my photos. Turns out that I am a fool!

Head over to Mr. Linden's very spooky, very Swedish website for more haunting, timeless pictures.

Fire spinning with Frank and Chelsea

"Me and Frank are going out to the garden to do some fire spinning. You wanna come?"

Correct me if I'm wrong, but think that I live in the best house in the world.
